VIA Rail attributes their success to the railway; the construction of the railway evolved the Canadian business districts. Trains not only took passengers and cargo throughout the provinces; cities began to flourish around the stations. Trains provided accessible transportation of materials for manufacturing; thus, the Canadian market began to boom!
In 1836, the first train public train began running between Saint Jean Sur Richelieu and La Prairie near Montreal. First time in history, Canadian's could now travel long distance via rail for work or exploration.
